About

This blog is the communication vehicle for Sheridan Cares. The home page (what contains the blog posts) includes a variety of opinions, ideas and strategies for reducing our environmental footprint at work.

What is Sheridan Cares?

Sheridan Cares is a grassroots initiative to reduce our environmental footprint in our work setting, the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, with campuses located in Oakville and Brampton, Ontario. It is not driven by corporate policy, but by individual concern for reducing consumption and increasing sustainability.

How Does it Work?

People can participate in Sheridan Cares by making a signed commitment (see green pledge) to reduce their environmental footprint at work through through action, awareness and taking responsibility.

Sheridan Cares signs are prominently displayed in participating workspaces so others know they care about the environment enough to act, to take responsibility, and to increase awareness… among themselves and others. People entering a Sheridan Cares workspace may also have their own awareness raised and should not be surprised if they are asked to take certain steps (for example: recycling, minimizing printing) while visiting or using facilities in a Sheridan Cares workspace.

Sheridan Cares operates semi-autonomously. Participants agree to abide by the green pledge but apply it in a way that suits the operations within their workspace. Information about how Sheridan Cares is being applied, as well as feedback and useful “green” strategies, are shared on this blog space.

Who Can Participate?

Any Sheridan department, office, small group within an office, or even individual staff member.

Sheridan Cares is voluntary. However, when a department/office joins it is ideal if all staff within that group are on board. When joining as a group, there should be a designated ;eader who will take  responsibility for monitoring and improving the application of Sheridan Cares in their department/office. The leader will also be given access as a contributor to this blog.
